Journal
Monday, October 10, 2005 12:09 AM CDT HI! I am sorry to say (but actually thrilled that I can FINALLY say this!!!!) but this will be my last journal entry- I have progressed enough that I am not making the frequent, large leaps that I was earlier in my recovery so the updates have become so much less frequent. I think that someone else could use this web space and definitely needs it more than I do now. So here it goes!
I am currently in Minnetonka with Abram. I really like it here and it feels like I am finally getting somewhere- I do have to be much more independent, but I still have Abram here to help me with what I DO still need help with- he works during the week, so it has given me a chance to really focus on getting my horn playing back up to par, finishing my classwork from LAST fall, so I can stop thinking about it, and working on my therapy.
I really love where I go to therapy right now, although that being said, I don't think anything could match what I got at Northwoods with Dave and the other PTs or Barb as my MT... I currently go to a getaway spa (yay!) that can accomodate my massage therapy, as well as physical therapy. I am actually going to start water therapy today in their heated therapy pool!!! This place also has an inn, a retaurant (mmm...), a full spa, a big gym, pool, hot tub, sauna, store (!!) etc... It is very convenient to where I am living right now, and I don't have to drive all over the city to find my different therapies.
I ended up adopting 2 kittens as well- they are VERY cute and have really been entertaining for my family and I. Max treats them like they are his- or he did at first anyway. He followed them and when he couldn't find them he would get VERY concerned. Now they like to jump on him and wake him up from his naps. =) The little one (Monty named after cherries... yes, I know...) has the same coloring as Max- black and white in similar spots, and the other one (Jimmy named after the car I loved and destroyed) is a black and gray tabby. Jimmy is pretty tame although has his moments, and Monty likes to cause trouble. Although they both are SO noisy when they purr, which they do frequently. =) They are driving each other crazy now because they both just had surgery, but most of the time they LOVE to play fight and roll around. We never get anything done because they are so entertaining!!!!
I will be home for Thanksgiving and then will move right now to Ann Arbor for school in January. I will probably be going between the two frequently, until my hand surgery on Dec. 15th (tentatively). I am having the hand surgery to remove a growth as the result from my first hand surgery, as well as to free up the tendons so my hand is more usable. There are a few more surgeries being talked about for my leg, which will not happen until next summer probably- one is to lengthen my left leg (via bone entension basically), the other is to do work on my knee because it is very unstable (but works!), and the last one for now is cosmetic reconstruction on my calf- the good skin would be stretched, a calf implant put in, and then the good skin would cover the outer part of my lower leg which is now all scar. I am really excited for that! =) Luckily, I am finally at the point where everything isn't critical so that it needs to be done immediately- I can put whatever I want to off, keeping in mind that it probably will have to happen eventually.
Anyway, sorry for the VERY lengthy entry. Thank you all SO much for caring about me and loving me and just keeping up with my progress. I can promise everyone that I could not have done this without ALL of you, and I will continue to work hard. =) If anyone feels compelled to do so, please consider a donation to this website. Caringbridge has been an unbelieveable service to my family- it is a free service to those who need it, such as my family after my accident. It allowed people to keep track of what was going on with the journal entries, and was especially important for me- I don't remember a LOT of what happened to me, and going back and reading the entries really put some lost pieces back into the puzzle. I could also return to old entries and REALLY see how far I had come, which was nice on the tough days. But most imporantly it lightened my days at home and in the hospital with all of your wonderful comments. This really was a helpful service to my family and I, and I hope this keeps running so that other people have it available for them if they ever need it. Your donation goes to keeping this service FREE for anyone who may need it- I sound like an AD. =)
If ANY of you would like to email me, I would LOVE to hear from you... my email is meschnei@umich.edu Thank you all SO much for everything you have done for me. =)
