Welcome to Adam's Website!

Make-a-Wish Slide Show:

On October 12, 2004 our son Adam was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia subtype M5. He has the 11q23 t(9;11) translocation and had leukemic cells in his central nervous system at diagnosis. His diagnosis came after weeks of unexplained illness and many trips to the doctor. We were in shock to hear that our son had cancer and devastated at the statistics we were given that he would beat his cancer. He was 16 months old at the time and Mom was 4 months pregnant with little brother Ryan.

Adam spent a month at Baystate Children’s Hospital in Springfield for his induction and another 8 days for re-induction. Induction was very difficult and he spent 2 weeks in intensive care fighting bad stomach ulcers from the chemotherapy.

Since AML is a very aggressive leukemia especially when the 11q23 translocation is involved we made the decision together with his doctors to have Adam undergo a cord blood transplant while he was in first remission.

On January 18, 2005 Adam received his new stem cells at Children’s Hospital Boston under the care of the oncologists from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute after conditioning chemotherapy and total body irradiation. Adam did extremely well throughout transplant and had minimal side effects. He was released from the hospital on day +21 and continues to receive outpatient care at the Jimmy Fund Clinic.

Adam will continue to be monitored for continued remission and side effects from his treatment for the rest of his life. He is currently a happy and healthy little boy.

Thanks for visiting Adam’s webpage and be sure to sign his guestbook while you’re here.

Day 1601

Our family once again participated in Katelynn's Ride to benefit the Jimmy Fund. Team Adam had 15 riders and numerous volunteers and cheerleaders this year. Thank you to all those who donated to this great cause.

Adam's precious life was put into perspective for me last night as I was looking over some kids' websites that I have been following for years. One particular boy Hammish has been one I've followed since Adam was diagnosed and his family gave us so much hope that AML was beatable. He was 1 1/2 years ahead of Adam with his transplant and it was great to follow a survivor's story for so long. Unfortunately Hammish's family found out last week that 6 years after his bone marrow transplant he has relapsed. I couldn't believe it - 6 years! I have come to realize that there are never promises with cancer and this is why we hold steadfast in helping the Jimmy Fund raise money so that they may develop more cures for those in need. We are so thankful to have Adam in our lives and we now pray as Hammish's family faces the beginnings of another long journey to transplant.
