Ryan Douglas Brown
Our Hero
June 29, 2000 - July 10, 2005

Dx Date: March 17, 2004
Dx: Infiltrating Pontine Glioma (Inoperable Brain Stem Tumor)

Ryan is going to be our own miracle. He is 5 years old. He was diagnosed with a tumor that is growing on his brain stem and throughout his brain. He also has a part that is called an exaphytic which is growing forward and sits on his pituatary gland. The prognosis is not good, but we do know that God does not work in statistics he works in miracles. Ryan is finished with his 30 treatments of radiation, that was started on April 8, 2004 and finished on May 19, 2004. He had his first MRI after radiation on June 15, 2004 and the tumor had shrank a tremendous amount. He responded better to the treatment than they had expected and it is currently stable as of August 17, 2004. Ryan's tumor is currently not visible by the doctors from the MRI scans, November 2, 2004. Ryan was on 9 rounds of chemotherapy called Temodor, but the tumor quit responding. The MRI on February 17th, 2005 showed slight growth, so we decided to take another approach and he is taking Zarnestra. It is an oral chemotherapy that is a Phase II trial study. He is doing well on it and had an MRI on April 20th, 2005 and he is clinically stable so we have kept everything the same for now. Ryan took a turn for the worse on June 5, 2005 and the doctors told us to get the family together because it was only a matter of days. Once again he proved them wrong, it was five weeks later on July 10, 2005 that Ryan won his earthly battle and became an angel in heaven, not just here on earth. Ryan is now pain free, cancer free, needle free, and can do all of the things a little boy should be doing and not worrying about when he has to go to the doctor or worry about needles. He always has been and always will be "OUR LITTLE HERO."

We made this page to keep our family and friends informed on Ryan's progress. We absolutely love to read our guestbook, it helps not only us but our family too. Thank you for your support, prayers, and love.

What Cancer Can't Do
It cannot cripple LOVE
It cannot shatter HOPE
It cannot corrode FAITH
It cannot destroy PEACE
It cannot kill FRIENDSHIP
It cannot shutout MEMORIES
It cannot silence COURAGE
It cannot invade the SOUL
It cannot steal eternal LIFE
It cannot conquer the SPIRIT
The greatest enemy is not the disease but despair.

"Once you find laughter no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it." - Bill Cosby

Ask My Mom How She Is

My Mom, she tells a lot of lies
she never did before
From now until she dies,
she'll tell a whole lot more
Ask my mom how she is
and because she can't explain,
She will tell a little lie
because she can't describe the pain.
Ask my Mom how she is,
She'll say "I'm alright"
If that's the truth, than tell me,
why does she cry each night?
Ask my Mom how she is,
she seems to cope so well.
She didn't have a choice you see,
nor the strength to yell.
Ask my Mom how she is,
"I'm fine, I'm well, I'm coping"
For Gods sake Mom, just tell the truth
just say your heart is broken.
She'll love me all her life,
I loved her all of mine.
But if you ask her how is she
she'll lie and say she's fine
I am here in Heaven.
I cannot hug from here.
If she lies to you don't listen,
Hug her and hold her near.
On the day we meet again,
we'll smile and I'll be bold.
I'll say, "You're lucky to get in here, Mom
with all the lies you told!"

Journal

Monday, June 29, 2009 1:35 AM CDT

We have had a lot going on over the last few months since my last journal. I will hopefully get on here and let you all know what we have been up too.

Tonight I just wanted to tell my baby boy:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You would be 9 yrs old today! It is your 4th birthday in Heaven! We will celebrate together again someday. I Love You and I Miss You!
