Journal
Tuesday, January 29, 2008 8:54 PM CST Hello all, Well here we go again. I had promised to write in Andy's journal more the last time I updated it, but I haven't. Andy is doing great. He went in for his last CT back in late December and everything looked great. He is schedule for another CT in July I do believe and then we have been told from there on out he will just need to have chest X-ray.
He got a new brace for his foot after the beginning of the year and it seems to be helping him. He is going to physical therapy once a week through the school distract. He is still taking speech therapy and probably will be for a while.
We signed Andy, and Robby, up for basketball this winter. At first Laura and I wanted to have both boys to be on the same team, but we are glad that did not work out. If they had been on the same team I feel that they would fight more. Andy is on a team of 2/3 grade boys/girls while Robby is on a K/1 grade boys team. They both play at the same place, but normally on different days.
Andy likes to play basketball with defense being the strongest part of his game. He has no problem going down to the floor to get the ball. His biggest problem is the rest of his game. He does get very aggressive going after the player with the ball, and the ref has had several talks with him on this subject. There are 9 players his team and they work them in every 5 minutes, so everyone gets to play at least 20 minutes per game.
Normally after Andy has played his 5 minutes he is ready to come out. Tonight they only had eight players and Andy got to stay out for a 10 minute run. He ended up playing 25 minutes, he should sleep well tonight.
We also have gotten Andy into Cub Scouts. Robby had joined at the start of the year, but since has decided that he does not like it. Their den is not very strong, they only have 2-3 boys, but they are trying to get a few more to sign up.
The rest of the family is doing ok. Marissa has gotten into the gifted program this year at school. She played volleyball and basketball for the first time this year, but her biggest problem is that she has my grace. I will give her credit for sticking it out on both sports. Practice for both sports was at 6:00 am every day, and she made it to everyone.
Robby did play soccer for the first time this past fall, and several of the boys who had been on that team are on his basketball team. Robby also got to go to Camp Quality with both Andy and Marissa this past summer, he loved it. Robby has told Laura and I, along with anyone he meets, that he has over a hundred girlfriends. He can be a little handful.
Laura is now into getting her master degree. She is taking classes on Tuesday nights here in Topeka, and starting this Thursday night she will be traveling back and forth to Kansas City one night a week for classes there. She is extremely busy.
I have changed jobs at the plant. I no longer work in the lab full time, put now work for the Process Engineering team as their lab technician. I get to be more involved with the whole process, not just the testing of material.
I better wrap this up, the kids need to get to bed. I will try to keep this updated more, but as you can tell I doubt if I can. Thank you for checking in on Andy's web site and God Bless You All.
Dave
