You probably don't remember me, but I sat beside you at a Red Sox game back in the summer of 2004. I was very touched by the story of your son and often think of him and your family. As a matter of fact I was speaking about him today. I am a manager of a large pediatric practice just outside of Boston, and we work very closely with Children's Hospital. One of the administrator's from Children's paid me a visit today to update me on many of their services. I was telling her about your son and how we were talking at the ballgame, and she was just as touched. SHe thought that it would make a great story for their hospital newspaper. Just incase everyone doesn't check the yahoo group updates, this was on there today from Cindy.
"April called and asked me to update everyone on what is going on. They are still in Chicago. Yesterday when they were at the Watertower they noticed Levi had a fever and gave him ibuprofen last night but it didn't do much. Today he had a fever around 103 and was vomiting. They are now in the ER and they think he has an infection from his port and will probably admit him and maybe have the port removed.
April also asked me to see if someone on the cloth diaper board would please let Hannah know that she is going to be delayed in getting the pics to her because of this.
Everyone please keep Levi in your prayers that this infection will be taken care of. Cindy"

April, I am so sorry to hear about Boston. I know just how special pets can be, they become members of the family, not "just" a pet. I hope that they are either able to help him, or, if that's not possible, that his time left with you is relatively pain-free for him. I hate to see anything and anyone in pain, and I pray that there is something to be done to ease his discomfort.

Ok it's been nearly 5 yrs since Jordyn died, but cancer, prevention of infection, and well everything just does NOT leave you. Sterelizing is not just protocal, it's just part of cancer life, the fact that this nurse "forgot" is not just an oops, but she should be repremanded for this, there's NO EXCUSE for this. (This really works me up too)
As far as the volunteer (which is what the majority of them are!) her treating you like this, again I'd complain to the house manager, and if SHE's the house manager I'd take it up farther, because they should NEVER treat families like that. Families should only feel welcomed and cared for at all times at the RMH. We spent months at the RHM in DC and couldn't have asked for more loving and compassionate people to be surrounded with daily for those months.
I'm so happy that there's currently NED! I'll be praying it continues. People don't realize how rare childhood cancer is, and how little funding it's research gets.

My heart is so sad that you've had to deal with this person whether it's IRL or via internet. I'd block her without looking back and don't worry about taking her money, if she was worried about how you were going to spend it then she should have NEVER sent you the money to begin with.
You're in my prayers. Been there done that and wish you and every other parent didn't have to go through this, most of all wish these precious children didn't have to go through all of this.

I am praying for you and for Levi. May his MRI be clear and all be alright. I cannot believe that some people can be so obnoxious and rude. How dare they "rag" at you for doing what any mother would do. Doe they not realize that what it takes to swallow ones pride and ask perfect strangers for help, much less give upt he things thatare enjoyable to their families. I can only imagine the cost involved with Levi's ongoing care. I know how high some of the bills can be from when my dad was going through cancer treatmentsand the medicines he had to take. The amount are astronomical. Unless you are the waelthiest person in the world (maybe not even then) can one afford this. But the debt is a small price to pay for having your loved on or child with you for a while longer. Levi is getting to be such a little man. He is beautiful. I admire you for your strength with all that you are having to do and going through. I do not know if I could be as strong. You are a great mommie to Livie and Levi. I am sending you so much love and many {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}. The prayers are an ongoing item.
I hope that you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I pray that you will have nothing but good news and your new year will be all that you wish.

I am writing to let you know my prayers will now include better understanding from others & a piece for you that you do not feel a need to explain your actions to anyone!!!!! april, i can't believe someone would be such a BITCH to you!!! i think she's the one who should be ashamed of herself, not you. what you said was absolutely right, that there are always people worse off, and that doesn't lessen what has happened to you and your family. to suggest that you should be happy this christmas suggests there is no pain in all you've gone through and are going through and will go through. this woman obviously has no clue about pain and suffering and if she does, then she's really not "gotten it", and she needs to take a look deep inside herself until she "gets it".
since losing my son this year i've definitely learned that there are ALWAYS others that have it "worse" (its all subjective anyway), but that does not mean that i suffer any less. to suggest that i should not miss my son so much because someone else had it "worse" is ludicrous! likewise, it is ludicrous that you should be "happy" because others have it worse. oh, that just makes me want to slap that person upside their head for their stupidity and selfishness! much like some of the ignorant comments i've gotten about baelin's death ("he's in a better place", argh, no he's not! there is no better place for a baby than in his mommy's arms!) but i digress.

April, ignore the narrow minded idiot. I KNOW exactly what you face, having a child who "looks" fine but could die so very easily. It is a hell that no mother, no father, no family should ever have to endure. Every little sniffle, bump and bruise brings to the front the horrible fear that IT will strike again and you will have to watch your beautiful child get sicker again. You hang in there, you are doing a great job and putting on such a brave face for everyone. You rock, Mama, you really do and Levi is blessed to have you for his mommy. You have the strength to fight for him when even doctors were not as willing to do so.
No one can ever understand the fear that we moms who have cancer kids face on a minute by minute basis. I would give everything I own in the world to have a child who did not have cancer. I know what a fragile hold he has on his "good" health and I treasure every day with him. We have seen too many friends who don't beat the odds and the anguish their families face.
Ignore her, April. You are not alone and we are here to support you. I pray that the fool who dared chastize you NEVER has to face what you do, it is not something I would wish on anyone.

This is so me! I recently forced myself to file a bunch of crap. Still have a milk crate in the attic from the early 90's to do. I found that I had to actually clean out my file cabinet first so the other stuff would fit. I had saved a bunch of stuff I didn't need. Funny how it seemed necessary to file at the time!

OMG Levi is goetting so big and Livie - WOW - they both get more gorgeous every day. I am so happy that everything is going well. It sounds like you are having a fun time at "Grandmas" house. I am so glad. I con totally relate to the nurisng a toddler. I wish that we had one of those great nursing room here at our local mall. It sure would be a lot nicer and much more private. Toddlers can be so interested in what is going on around them and forget what they are doing. At least mine does. If there si any bit of noise - look out. But oh well they are so worth every squiggle and wiggle they do. You are forever in my prayers and always in my thouhgts. *sniff, sniff* Awwww....April, that is just too sweet!!! That was such a wonderful thing for him to do for you! I wish that I knew what to tell you about Levi's therapy, but I don't. I'm not in your situation, so I can't tell you how to best handle this. I'm another person who has little faith in our medical system after my own little horror story involving my oldest son... All I can say is that you know what you need to do, deep within your heart. Try to still the rest of the voices and doubts that you hear and listen to your heart. If you can do that, then you'll probably have a better idea of what needs to be done. Our love and prayers are with you all!!!

It's been a rough week for mommy and daddy this week. Daddy has been working 16 hours a day this week. Leaving at 5 am and not getting back til 11:30 pm. He's been lucky if he gets 4 hours of sleep. So far he's got the weekend off so yippee!!

April, I am so glad things are looking a little better. Finances are always stressful...let along combined with medical problems. You should talk to Julie C. about what she did with her dd when she couldn't leave the house due to her ds's heart surgery. They were pretty homebound for quite a while, so she may have some ideas for you. We're still praying for Levi and your family.
