Alex's Quest to be Cured!
Alex has been in remission for over four years!!
Alex was diagnosed with Stage IV FH Wilms' Tumor on April 26, 2004. Three tumors were removed on April 30th from his right lung, his central line was placed in that surgery and a bone marrow biopsy was done from his hip. The main tumor and right kidney were removed on July 28th in a 4 hour surgery, before which he was immune suppressed with neutrophil counts below 500. Other hospitalizations for infections in his central line include May, June and October. His central line was removed in October due to recurring infections and a PICC line was placed in his right arm for 5 weeks. 2100 cGy of radiation to his lungs and the tumor bed was finished on August 20th and chemo was finally done as of November 16th, 2004! He is in remission!!

John 9:2 & 3: His disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned,' said Jesus, 'but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.'"
Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Psalm 28:6-7 NLT

Thursday, May 14, 2009 7:19 AM CDT Hello all!
We are doing great in sunny central Illinois! It has been rainy and colder lately, but the sun it back out today and I know warmer weather is not far off!
Alex is a Boy Scout, as many of you know, and he just received his first rank advancement from a plain ol' Scout to Tenderfoot Scout!!! He's working on Second Class requirements right now and hopes to complete that and First Class by the end of summer camp in July!!! They have a special program where his troop goes to get First Class done and throws in a couple of easier merit badges, as well. Who knows, maybe we'll have an Eagle Scout one day! We are so proud.
His next appointment is in August and he'll have one more CT until we are allowed to wait a year in between. I'm sure the summer will go fast, but I will try to get in an update or two soon. We will be going to Wisconsin again in June, as well as troop campouts, then he has BSA weeklong camp in July (not going to cancer camp by his own choice this year), then August will have some more campouts and other fun ending up with another Court of Honor. We are deep into Scouting if you can't tell!!! So are Carson and Stephanie, and Jeff is assistant Scoutmaster and I'm on the troop committee. Never knew we'd be so heavy into it, but it's great for the kids and we enjoy it, too.
Have a wonderful rest of the school year!!!
Jen
