Hi, Miss Katia. It's been a while (again!) since I've been by. What a busy Autumn it has been for me this year. Much more than normal. Whatever "normal" is!! :) We have not had any "crispy" fall days, though, and I actually miss that. It seems so weird to be in the 70s and 80s, when our normal daytime highs should be in the lower 60s. It really doesn't feel like fall, and with Halloween so close everyone talks about how "odd" it is to go to the pumpkin farms with tee shirts and shorts on!! I can't wait to see what your Scary Doctor costume looks like!! I'm really sorry your eyes are hurting you again. I hope the doctors can help you more next week. (And I think it is very sweet that you like having Tatiana around at your eye appointments. I'll bet you miss Sharayah, huh?)

Hi, Miss Katia and family. I just wanted to stop by and let you know I'm thinking about you. :o) Sure wish everyone down there was feeling better. We had a family portrait taken this weekend (way too many years since doing that!) and I proudly wore my Ladybug Bracelet. You ARE part of me, after all. :) Tracy, I have to wonder what Florida's "cooling off" temps are. We have been about 15-20 degrees above average for most of the last month. I'm not complaining -- just doesn't seem like typical fall weather. No cool evenings/mornings. No frost. Very strange! I'll try and be back soon. Hi, Solomon Family. Doing my "once a week" visit. :( I can't believe I am going that long, but my life is Super Crazy. I'm sorry to hear that Katia's eyes are not so good. :( Poor girl. I FINALLY sent you a small donation to help your family with the "never-ending" bills you must have. I feel silly that it took me so long. First to get the $ in the card, and then to get that sealed envelope addressed. Pretty pathetic!! :O) We are in the midst of a heat wave up here. Temps are usually in the mid to upper 60's this time of year but we're breaking records of mid 80. Weird!! Thinking about you, as always...

Hi Tracy,

I've been following Katia for several years. I hadn't checked in a long time and started checking again recently. I was sad to see that she was still having problems with GVHD. I had thought it would die down after awhile. Anyway, I'm a clinical laboratory scientist (the folks who perform all the lab tests) and a recent link came across in my e-mail dealing with new therapies for GVHD. I thought I'd pass this along to you to mention to Katia's doctors since it seems less invasive than the steroids. Hopefully something like this will help her.

Gee, here I am again...about a week since my last visit. I truly LOVE Autumn in Upstate New York but it is such a hectic time of year both personally and professionally. It feels like life won't slow down at all until around January. When it's freezing cold outside!!! :)

I just updated myself. I hope Katia's eyes have straightened out a bit. Hoping, too, that all your girls are doing well at school. Just a few more weeks and Columbus Day weekend will be here...maybe Sharayah will be able to visit home again??

Tracy, thanks for the last update. Even though I've been coming by Katia's site for several years now, I do love to reflect. I definitely remember how many times you'd mention how you LOVED her handprints on the glass windows...and you made me realize to cherish everything about my children.

I think a lot of us have been coming here to read updates and have been very negligent in signing in and giving the entire Solomon family encouragement and good wishes. Somehow, I think a lot of it as to do with the message board with a lot of people using it for prayer requests for others. This is Katia's site and I think the focus should stay that way. I come by a few times each week. I have been visiting your site since before Katia's transplant. My son had ALL. I used to sign the guest book when Katia was in the hospital, but things got crazy in our lives, and I ran out of words... but I've never stopped caring and never stopped praying for your beautiful little girl and praying for your amazing family.

I've been praying so much since reading of all the troubles with Myron. I don't know how your family is surviving without his income. And then to see tonight that Katia's WBC was down again... oy... not what I was hoping to see for her. My thoughts and prayers and heart are with you all. Tracy, I am sorry that I don't sign often but I do come here EVERY DAY to check on You and Katia and Myron and the other girls as well. It's like you blink and they are grown. I know the feeling, my son Cory is now 24 and Gillian and Erica are 21. I look at pictures of them from years past and i can't believe it, they have grown up right in front of me, in like a milli-second.
Tracy dear, it is ok to cry, your first baby is stepping out on her own. It is a strange feeling, on one hand you feel very proud of her and can't wait to see where life takes her and at the same time you miss her and want her near by to protect her.
Tracy, you are a wonderful Mom, i have been following you guys since the beginning and I can say she will be fine, after all she learned how to take care of herself from you. Rest assured she is a wonderful young woman Tracy, be proud and let those tears roll, happiness.

Tracy... i am praying for something to happen positive in your lives along the health issues.... I know katia is still here that is positive. but she still suffers from awful side effects. I am praying for your health. and as for myron of course im praying actualy after several yrs of stress I started having the exactl same symptoms as myron.. even the arm numb and tingling.... after ever test in the book they said it was panic attacks... I take medicine for that and no more symptoms... I think each person has a breaking point... myron has probably reached his. I pray thats all it is... they can fix that! go read up on panic attacks. the symptoms he had are classic. hope that helps! but still run the tests to be sure. love you guys! and I loved the rain gear! you looked like blue nuns! Solomon family, I continue to pray daily for you. I am glad the surgery for Katia seems to be making a difference. I hope the doctors find the cause of Myron's problems and they are minor easy to cure problems.
I will pray that God answers your prayers in the best way to serve your needs.
Also, when Evan's counts were consistantly low he was switched to pentamadine. It made a difference. It's not as easy to administer as Septra, the infusion took time from our day but it was worth it to see his WBC higher.
Wishing you all the best as you finish off the summer and send the girls off to school (and college).

Hi, Miss Katia & Family. I am glad you made it home okay and that Katia's eyes are getting better. I sure hope Myron "lies low" tomorrow and doesn't have to make a sudden trip to the ER. I can't imagine all of the stress from having ONE person going through something, let alone 3 or more! :(

I think it's really neat that your friend, David, found you. And to think how hard/impossible it would have been just 8 - 10 years ago. Several years ago I actually contacted a long-lost friend after seeing an obituary in the paper and recognizing hers, and her sisters, names (we live in remote parts of upstate New York so it's rather easy sometimes to recognize names!). Back in the late 70's Jeanne and I had become very close friends in the three short years our family lived in her town. We definitely grew apart after my family moved back to my home town. There were no Internet or cell phones and neither of us were good at writing letters. :) Anyway, I wrote her a sympathy card and got a wonderful letter back from her. I could tell from her stationery and letter that her life had done a "180", and she actually thanked me in her letter for teaching HER some life lessons. It seems that long ago I had "preached" at her about not partying, since she was starting to do that just before I moved away. I guess that is part of the reason I didn't stay in touch much after moving . Anyway, I guess my "soap box moments" stuck with her and she even wrote down some things I had told her (I learned some pretty good lessons from cousins who were constantly in trouble, it seemed). Anyway, I regret to say we haven't been in touch (again), but it sure was nice to hear from each other, and it certainly made me feel good that even though I was only in middle school at the time, I actually helped someone later in their life. And I had no idea at the time.....!

Hello Myron and Tracy. I don't know where to begin, because for me, our friendship never ended. I have thought about you all often, for many years, and something told me to look you guys up. My name is David M. Smith, I was a friend of both of you years ago. I still have pictures of all of you, and so many memories. Today, as it has on many occacsions but never followed with action, I looked up the name "Myron Solomon" and only received an address. Not knowing if that was you, I looked up "Tracy Solomon", and came across an unlisted name, but the site allowed me to look up other sites with "Tracy Solomon" That is when I came acoss Katia's Homepage. I still was not sure if I had finally found you all. Katia has a picture that looks so much like Sharaya (when she was 4-1991), but I still was not sure. I listened to one of the songs by Myron, and I was still not sure, because I could not hear the voice I remembered. I did not remember you singing that well. Then finally I saw the pictures of the whole family and tears welled up in my eyes. I told my wife I had found my friends. She looked at me as if I where crazy, because she did not know that I was looking for you all. I had begun to cry because I had just went read through so much before I realized it was my friends who were going through this with their child. Not to say, if I did not know you it would not matter, I just mean, I was touched by the genuine Love I read and listened to. Myron, I still have a cross that that your grandparents sent you in saudi. I keep it in one of my bibles and it's in mint condition. There are so many things I want to say. But I will let my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ hear them tonight. I pray for all of you. Myron, Tracy, Sharaya, Tatiana, and especially Katia. I don't know if you all remember me, or thought of me, but Tracy I should have listened to you, I kept eating those cool ranch doritoes, and they went straight to my belly, just like you said. Myron, my one friend that I still say is the man I am to change the world with. I still think we should be preaching the Gospel to every nation. I miss you. I wish I had been there for you sooner. I just got through reading my e-mails and this was one that was in it. I immediately substituted "Brown" for "yellow" and could picture Tracy and Katia while reading this.....

The yellow shirt had long sleeves, four extra-large pockets trimmed in black thread and snaps up the front. It was faded from years of wear, but still in decent shape. I found it in 1963 when I was home from college on Christmas break, rummaging through bags of clothes Mom intended to give away. "You're not taking that old thing, are you?" Mom said when she saw me packing the yellow shirt. "I wore that when I was pregnant with your brother in 1954!"

"It's just the thing to wear over my clothes during art class, Mom. Thanks!" I slipped it into my suitcase before she could object. The yellow shirt be came a part of my college wardrobe. I loved it. After graduation, I wore the shirt the day I moved into my new apartment and on Saturday mornings when I cleaned.

The next year, I married. When I became pregnant, I wore the yellow shirt during big-belly days. I missed Mom and the rest of my family, since we were in Colorado and they were in Illinois But that shirt helped. I smiled, remembering that Mother had worn it when she was pregnant, 15 years earlier.

That Christmas, mindful of the warm feelings the shirt had given me, I patched one elbow, wrapped it in holiday paper and sent it to Mom. When Mom wrote to thank me for her "real" gifts, she said the yellow shirt was lovely. She never mentioned it again.

The next year, my husband, daughter and I stopped at Mom and Dad's to pick up some furniture. Days later, when we uncrated the kitchen table, I noticed something yellow taped to its bottom. The shirt!

And so the pattern was set.

On our next visit home, I secretly placed the shirt under Mom and Dad's mattress. I don't know how long it took for her to find it, but almost two years passed before I discovered it under the base of our living-room floor lamp. The yellow shirt was just what I needed now while refinishing furniture. The walnut stains added character.

In 1975 my husband and I divorced. With my three children, I prepared to move back to Illinois . As I packed, a deep depression overtook me. I wondered if I could make it on my own. I wondered if I would find a job. I paged through the Bible, looking for comfort. In Ephesians, I read, "So use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will be standing up."

I tried to picture myself wearing God's armor, but all I saw was the stained yellow shirt. Slowly, it dawned on me. Wasn't my mother's love a piece of God's armor? My courage was renewed.

Unpacking in our new home, I knew I had to get the shirt back to Mother. The next time I visited her, I tucked it in her bottom dresser drawer.

Meanwhile, I found a good job at a radio station. A year later I discovered the yellow shirt hidden in a rag bag in my cleaning closet.

Something new had been added. Embroidered in bright green across the breast pocket were the words "I BELONG TO PAT."

Not to be outdone, I got out my own embroidery materials and added an apostrophe and seven more letters. Now the shirt proudly proclaimed, "I BELONG TO PAT'S MOTHER." But I didn't stop there. I zig-zagged all the frayed seams, then had a friend mail the shirt in a fancy box to Mom from Arlington, VA. We enclosed an official looking letter from "The Institute for the Destitute," announcing that she was the recipient of an award for good deeds. I would have given anything to see Mom's face when she opened the box. But, of course, she never mentioned it.

Two years later, in 1978, I remarried. The day of our wedding, Harold and I put our car in a friend's garage to avoid practical jokers. After the wedding, while my husband drove us to our honeymoon suite, I reached for a pillow in the car to rest my head. It felt lumpy. I unzipped the case and found, wrapped in wedding paper, the yellow shirt. Inside a pocket was a note: "Read John 14:27-29. I love you both, Mother."

That night I paged through the Bible in a hotel room and found the verses: "I am leaving you with a gift: peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really love me, you will be very happy for me, for now I can go to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do, you will believe in me."

The shirt was Mother's final gift. She had known for three months that she had terminal Lou Gehrig's disease. Mother died the following year at age 57.

I was tempted to send the yellow shirt with her to her grave. But I'm glad I didn't, because it is a vivid reminder of the love-filled game she and I played for 16 years. Besides, my older daughter is in college now, majoring in art. And every art student needs a baggy yellow shirt with big pockets.

Hi, Miss Katia & family. Gosh, I can't believe it's been one whole week since I've been by. I'm really sorry; my job picks up (majorly!) in August and I just haven't had time for much else. I hope Myron's aunt passes peacefully. It is so hard when we don't have a chance to say goodbye, but I am quite certain she already knows how much she is loved. That sounds horrible about the killer bees, and I'm glad (and not surprised) that there were agencies in our country ready to offer a helping word.

Tracy, I'm really sorry you are going through so much with your own health right now. I have one test coming up (colonoscopy due to family history) in a week and I can't imagine ALL of the tests you and Katia have in just a few short weeks. I really hope it goes well tomorrow and beyond for Katia's eyes. "Scraping" does sound harsh but hopefully Katia will be less anxious once she gets her happy juice. :) I will keep you all in my thoughts, as always.

I have been meaning to write since you posted the picture of Katia in her wheelchair. Something about the picture struck me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. After about the third time looking at it, it hit me so obviously. Right on top of her head looks like a ray of sunshine and the way her blanket is placed looks like angel wings. I noticed somebody else mentioned that too. What a great picture of a very special little angel. You have a beautiful family, Tracy, and you look more like their sister than their mother.

Austin & Luke think that you girls are angels. The picture with the pancho's makes you all look like angels, especially the way Katia's blanket is, it looks like wings. They love seeing new pictures too.
My kids are so much more willing to help others because of the examle I'm trying to set. I owe that to you guys because I learned from you. Austin is always trying to give me his spare change for fundraising. Savannah even colored a Ladybug picture this morning and said it was for Katia. I usually have to ask her to draw pictures for people but this was her idea. Luke is always asking about how Katia is and what she doing. When were out shopping they always find ladybugs and want to get them for Katia. I LOVE that they care so much!!

I'm sorry about your test results. That must be unsettling to say the least. It's not like you need more doctors visits, tests and medications in your family! Sometimes don't you just wish for a break? I can relate some as I am the caregiver to my 26 yr old son with brain cancer and I have health issues too. (I mostly try to ignore them. I know I shouldn't, but sometimes it's easier. LOL)

I know you are strong-in personality and faith-and will just take it one day at a time, but I wish it could be different!

I have been following your website and the families featured on it for quite a while. Some how I feel very uplifted each time I check on it. I love the beautiful pictures of Katia no matter how many times I see them. I prayed for Katia many times as you went to Miami to have her eye problems looked at as I know how awful those examintions can be. Eyes are not meant to be touched! :o) It sounds like everything went well which I was so glad to hear and I will be praying that the surgery on the 8th is also a big sucess. I think the best part of that is that she gets to be asleep for it!

Oh i am so happy that there will be something that can possibly help Katia's eye pain!! I had punctal plugs a few years ago to assist with my dry eye. I also worked in an eye doctor's office for a couple of years and got to see many patients who benefited from them. Hopefully things will go smooth. It must be so nice to have some sort of "light" at the end of the tunnel. I will pray that this is the answer!!

I know she would love to have the irritation gone and to be able to function normally for her school work and just every day living- maybe you can have some light in the house afterwards! I am so glad that the doctors are able to help Katia's eye discomfort. Are the filaments like dry skin under her eyelids? If they are I can see why she would be so irritated. The poor baby has been through so much. I will be praying that you have finally found an answer and that the doctors give her relief soon. Sending love and prayers.

I hope you got your results back from your tests...I returned to work today so now I will be able to check on you guys better...I came back light duty as I am still on crutches and will be until 8/14/07's Dr appt. They didn't think I would be back this soon...I needed to save sick leave so I can get the other hip done as soon as posible since it hurts more than the operative one now...

I understand your concerns about Tati starting high school... and also about your concerns about her back pain. My daughter Alex ended up in the hospital for quite some time as a result of her back surgeries. Like Tati, she will be starting high school this year. I am more nervous than she is!

Nice update, Tracy. As I was reading it, I was thinking it is perfect for the second half of her book, and to also educate those that are new to her site. The picture you included in the update, of Katia on the back of the couch, has ALWAYS been one of my favorites. I remember when it was a larger picture, and was so glad when you just shrunk it down, but didn't remove it from the site. :) Again, as I've said before, your whole family has taught me so much. I cannot even imagine what you are going through. Just this week our oldest child was dx'd with Diabetes. Just dealing with that, and all the learning and phone calls, has made this a very exhausting week. I can't even relate to what it must be like to hear much harder news about cancer affecting your child. Your stamina and strength has always been inspiration to me. Keep it up!!!!! I love the new pics, especially the one of her splashing her toes in the waves. Now that she has the mediport, you'll have to teach her to swim one of these days so she can really get the ocean experience. I know swimming is good for bones and joints too (often used for rehab). I know this is a bit different but our German Shephard Ziggy has severe osteoperosis from high doses of prednisone (for an unknown autoimmune disorder that keeps attacking his skin and ears) and swimming was one of the things recommended for helping him regain mobility and strength in his bones and joints. I bet this is Katia's first time playing in the ocean. I grew up in Nova Scotia so I spent a lot of time by the ocean in my childhood. I really miss the ocean now. Jump a few waves for me Katia.
