Girls at the pumpkin patch

On 9/27/04, we took Elli to the doctor for bloodwork assuming she was anemic. Later that day our pediatrician called telling us to go to ACH, that Elli has leukemia. After driving to the hospital in a daze and a bone marrow and spinal tap we found out she has AML/M5 leukemia. That is how our long journey began...

Hello friends and family,

Well, I finally did it...updated! All is well here. We just went to a clinic appointment and everything looks great. AND we are all done with getting re-immunized, yea! I should have posted a picture of that. Not pretty (scrapbookers must photograph everything!)

Elli is really enjoying school. The days are long for her and she is really wiped by Thursday and Friday but has made tons of friends and loves her teacher. In fact, she has a few BOYS that tell her they love her! One told her he wants to marry her but she said no "Daddies are supposed to be taller then mommies". Poor guy but cracked me up! She is reading great and doing math with ease. We are really blessed.

Sweet story, Emma has to do a speech this year as part of her grade and her speech is about Elli. I was so touched she would write about this because she has never really talked much about it. When Elli was initially in the hospital, Emma was the most effected I think. She was old enough to understand and was just really unsure of how to be around Elli with all the tubes. Here are some parts of her speech...
Meeting someone with leukemia will change your life forever; I know this because it sure changed mine...When you walk into All Children’s Hospital you feel lost and scared but the nurses and doctors give you hope. WE could not have got this far with out hope. It really helped us because we knew through our whole ordeal people believed Elli would survive. Any family that is going through this experience needs hope...Elli is a fun and loving little sister that changed my life forever.

That last line really touched me. Emma is very reserved about her feelings but has such a wonderful heart!

Abby is doing great in school too of course. She is in second and reading at an almost 5th grade level. She has great teachers and is really excelling this year.

In September, Pat completed his first Triathlon in DC. He raised almost $7000 for Team in Training! I am so proud of him. He enjoyed it so much that he signed up to do an IronMan next August. Crazy man!

Well I need to go to sleep. I have started working again while the girls are in school and it is wearing me out! I will try and update more often so that the entrys are not so long!

Have a great weekend,
Andrea
