Wow it has been awhile since we last updated now hasn't it. Time seems to fly by lately.
So first We are in the mist of fighting to get an aid even a part time aid for Amanda in school. We know that she needs one specially when it come to physical stuff (pe), but with out a formal diagnosis like Autism or like that, it is a lot harder to get one. We have had meetings with the school, the principal, the teacher and the LA. They all know Amanda and we have had a discussions about her needs for this coming school year. They all have read up on Sensory disorders, as well as know her physical needs as well. We know that she is mentally ready to start school but with her motor skills she will need assistance with that. We haven't heard anymore from the school board on this issue and probably will be fighting them to get what we need. So that is where we stand there.
At the begging of this month myself and Amanda got to meet with a Private OT who was in Campbell River giving an workshop on Sensory issues, she had limited spots to meet with some of the kids as well. So I got to go to a 3 hr work shop one evening with her and some other parents here in town. It was a great workshop. Ohh and the OT was Kim Barthel. The next day Amanda got to go and meet her, and play. Kim was surprised by Amanda's wide spectrum of sensory issues and how all over the chart they are. She was stating that she believes that her sensory issues are a tied to some other issue. She went through all of Amanda's features and her medical files and was surprised that we haven't seen genetics or that none of the doctors are concern with her temp problems and low blood sugers. She has now sent in a request for us to see a different ped here in town, if not the next town over. So now we are just waiting to see if we get in or not.
Health wise Amanda has been great, other then a little more use of nebs then usual all has been good.
So come September we are hoping to have an aid for school, being transfered to a new OT/ST/PT. We are also be looking at what type of orthotics she will need come the fall.
Hope all is well with you all. Hugs Sherry and Amanda
