Abby Castleberry
At the ship's rail coming home from Hawaii
Journal
Sunday, December 31, 2006 10:46 PM CST *************************************************** Hello friends. Much has passed since our last journal entry in June 2006. We have been busy living life and trying to keep up with our own schedules. School and work have us pretty well occupied. The past months have included: - A long hot summer. - Abby celebrated her twelfth birthday on August 15th. - She started 6th grade a few days after turning twelve years old. - We recognized the 2nd anniversary of the accident on November 15th. - Since the accident, Abby has grown from 4ft9in 67lbs to 5ft3in 112lbs. - Her hair has again grown out blond and curly. - We cruised with Grandma & Grandpa and cousin Phoebe to Hawaii in November - We celebrated Christmas. - We now are ready to welcome 2007.
Abby has also made time for gymnastics. With the assistance of Coach Kenny, she recently nearly nailed a round-off, back handspring, back handspring. She started taking guitar lessons, which is a totally new endeavor and with practice, she may begin to enjoy. She was involved in a community children’s choir with the Central Sierra Arts Council. Her and a handful of other young girls practiced together and were able to have two public performances. She resumed some school tutoring sessions with Lee and plans to work mostly on math. Abby was able, with the assistance of classroom aid Ms. Kitchen to achieve the Superintendent’s honor roll list at school. It is difficult convincing Abby of the importance of her schoolwork and being responsible for starting and finishing without prompting. Her own self-motivation is something that we still hope and pray will return to her. In January, Abby will start school volleyball and make time to return to swim practice part- time with TCA. Every activity is an effort to combine mind and body towards healing and growth, strength and stamina, focus and goal achievement.
We continue to pray and to receive your prayers and best wishes for Abby’s complete and full recovery. For Abby we ask for your acceptance, patience, and understanding, and a good sense of humor to allow you to laugh and enjoy being in her presence.
Kind words are short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless ----- Mother Teresa
Love and best wishes for this new year, the Castleberry family
